Thursday, July 27. 2006Podcasting Liberally (Supplementary Show) - July 26th, 2006.To help make up for the missing show from this week’s Drinking Liberally, Mollie and Will joined me (Richard) late Wednesday night for an impromptu, supplementary recording of the weekly Podcasting Liberally. Goldy and the other regular guest were there in spirit only due to other commitments. We spent the better part of 30 minutes discussing the absurdity in the Washington State Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision, today, upholding the ban on gay and lesbian marriage. The remainder of the show was spent on Seattle’s vagrancy problem. The show is 55:39, and is available here as a 32.6 MB MP3. [Recorded live in downtown Seattle. No special thanks to the producer, Richard, who takes full responsibility for the failure of the regularly scheduled show.] Podcasting Liberally - July 25th, 2006.The show recorded on July 25th, 2006 included an audio artifact introduced into the recording after the first five minutes. The audio artifact increased in its annoyance until listening to the show was unbearable. We have since identified the source of the problem, but sacrificed a whole show in the process. I offer my apologies to everyone that has lost the opportunity to hear this episode of Podcasting Liberally. Wednesday, July 19. 2006Podcasting Liberally - July 18th, 2006Oh, what happens when Goldy is away. The older crowd gets the reins. Lynn gathered together a gang of political and social activists from the Vietnam War era who are still active locally and we talked about activism then and now and how activism gets transmitted across the generations. Joining Lynn were Don Hopps of The Institute for Washington's Future, Alice Woldt of the Washington Association of Churches, Michael Hood of the blog, Blatherwatch, and Howie Martin of the blog, Howie in Seattle. We discussed the demise of political parties, the impact of right-wing consolidation of the media, the impact of the blogs and much more. The show is 53:43, and is available here as a 33.4 MB MP3. [Recorded live at the Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally. Special thanks to Confab creators Gavin and Richard for producing the show.] Wednesday, July 12. 2006Podcasting Liberally - July 11th, 2006In the great tradition of patriot Sam Adams, we came back from our Fourth of July hiatus all boozed up and ready to foment revolution. Joining me (Goldy) in patriotic desecration of the American political system were Will, Carl, Nick, Sandeep and Ray. Topics of discussion included whether former challenger Mark Wilson's endorsement of Sen. Maria Cantwell would mollify the "anti-war" wing of the Democrat party, President Bush pathetically pointing to a $296 billion deficit as evidence that his economic policies are working, and Rep. Dave Reichert's "moderate" vote against raising the minimum wage. Meanwhile, young bucks Will and Nick debated the tension between Belltown residents and Belltown bars, while the rest of us old folk fondly reminisced about the days when noisey street revelers were a greater threat to our sleep than apnea. The show is 52:55, and is available here as a 33.8 MB MP3. [Recorded live at the Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally. Special thanks to Confab creators Gavin and Richard for producing the show.]
